John “Jack” J. Dougherty, 91, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on December 26, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver. He was born on November 6, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA. John was a beloved father, brother, and friend.
John is survived by his devoted son, Joseph Dougherty, and his sisters Eileen Troxell and Peggy Carroll, as well as his brother Jerry Dougherty. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret Dougherty, his loving wife Bernadine Dougherty, his brother Thomas Dougherty, his sister-in-law Jean Dougherty, his brothers-in-law Frank Carroll, and Gene Troxell.
John proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, primarily on destroyers. After his military service, he worked for the United States Postal Service for 23 years. Jack was a dedicated member of the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Arvada, where he worshipped. He was also a life member of the American Legion.
In his free time, John enjoyed being a passionate fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies sports teams. His love for his favorite teams brought him joy and excitement throughout his life.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 17, at 10 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, located at 12735 West 58th Avenue, Arvada. Interment will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery. The Horan & McConaty funeral home in Arvada, CO, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
John J. Dougherty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
