John Robert ""Jack"" Flint

John Robert (Jack) Flint 11/19/1921 – 6/5/2016 Jack passed away June 5, 2016. He was born in Webster Groves, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. He graduated from Webster High School June, 1939 and Washington University January, 1943. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army May, 1943 and transferred to the Army Air Corp November, 1943. In September of 1944 he was assigned to the 97th Bomb Group, 15th Air Force in Naples, Italy. He was a squadron commander when his B17 was shot down in November of 1944 over Triest. He was captured by German troops and was a prisoner-of-war in Stalag III. He returned home in May of 1945. Decorations include: Air Medal, Oakleaf Cluster, Purple Heart, ETO Ribbon, three Battle Stars, Victory Ribbon and American Theater. Jack married Betty L. Curry of El Paso, Texas in June of 1945. He joined Shell Oil Company in 1945 and then Skelly Oil Company in 1950. The family made eleven moves from 1946 to 1969. In 1970 on assignment from J.P. Getty, Jack was made Executive Vice President of Tong Soh Petroleum in South Korea. In 1974 he was made Vice President and General Manager of Vanply in Charlotte, North Carolina, retiring in 1987. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Raymond E. and Alice Joy Flint of Webster Groves, Missouri, his sons Thomas W. and William R. in 1965 and his wife Betty in 2000. He is survived by his son, John R. (Bob) Flint. Jack lived in Pine, Colorado for over twenty years. He was active in the V.F.W., his church and community.
