John W. Giesen

John Giesen was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on April 5, 1928. He grew up as an only child in the St. Paul area with his mother – Bobbie Giesen and was surrounded by his aunts and uncles. John went to St. Thomas Military Academy and then went on to serve in the Army during the Korean War era. John earned a ranking of First Lieutenant. Following his tour of duty, John stayed in the military reserves for 20 years. John married Mary Lou Gilbertson in 1950 and recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. John and Mary Lou had 6 children. Cindy, Jay, Lee Ann, Greg, David and Lori. All 6 children are married. 5 of the 6 kids live in the Denver area and Lori lives in Boston. John also has 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. John loved the advertising business and pursued a career of over 45 years in the industry. John's first major position was with Leo Burnett Advertising out of Chicago. John headed up the United Airlines account for over 10 years. In 1974, John moved the family out to Denver Colorado to continue his career in advertising. He helped start up an agency in Denver that was ultimately bought out by Doyle Dane Bernbach. When people think of John Giesen – 4 main thoughts come to mind 1. His love for his family and friends 2. His love for God 3. His creativity and great imagination 4. His quick wit and great sense of humor John Giesen will be remembered for these qualities and many more. John Giesen died on January 14, 2012. He had 83 wonderful years. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 11:00am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 South Quebec Street in Centennial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John's name to Mount St. Vincent Children's Home, 4159 Lowell Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80211.
