John Thomas Gilmore

John Thomas ""Tom"" Gilmore, 96, passed away on March 1. Born November 14, 1914 in Wheeling, West Virginia, the second of seven children of John Wesley Gilmore and Jessie Thomas Shaffer, John was the husband of the late Ann Ardery, father of Thomas Ardery Gilmore (Marilyn), grandfather of Lee Gilmore (Ron Meiners), and great grandfather of Spencer Daniel Ardery Meiners. Tom served in Europe with the US Army Air Corps during World War II, remained an officer in the military service and was stationed in California; at the Pentagon; in Fairbanks, Alaska; and in Denver until his retirement from the Air Force in 1961. Tom's next career was with the Associated General Contractors of Colorado until his retirement there in 1980. He then served several more years as a volunteer driver with the Red Cross, delivering the elderly to and from doctor appointments. He served on the Vestry of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Redeemer, and on the Board of Trustees of Columbine Valley. He is remembered by those who knew and loved im as warm, caring, hospitable, and fun . . . a true gentleman. A memorial service will be held at St. Gabriel the Archangel Episcopal Church, 6190 East Quincy Av., Cherry Hills Village, CO at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011.
