John Addison Hanf

John Addison Hanf (Addy) was born on July 25, 1988 in Englewood, CO to John and Sandy Hanf, and walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 15, 2017. Addison grew up in Lakewood, CO in the Green Mountain neighborhood. He attended Green Mountain High School his freshman and sophomore years and Golden High School his junior and senior years. He was so incredibly blessed by all the amazing friendships from both the Lakewood and Golden communities. He then went on to study (and of course play football) at Adams State College and then UNC in Greeley. Addison was a gentle giant with an absolute heart of gold and there was nothing in the world better than one of his bear hugs. He was a big old softie … unless you were on the other side of the line on the football field. Sense of humor. Boy did he have a sense of humor! Addison could make anyone laugh at any given time (not always the appropriate time either…). Whether it was a joke, comment or crazy noise that came out of the middle of nowhere – he was always looking for laughter and to put a smile on your face. Addison tried almost every sport out there when he was little. Baseball was an absolute failure – there was only one season of that, and the majority of it was spent looking for bugs at his feet in the outfield. He played many years of basketball, and was in taekwondo from the age of 5 until he started high school football. He was just testing for his 3rd degree black belt at that time. Who would have known that the gentle giant was also a black belt! In high school it was all about football, and so many of his closest friends and memories came from football. From the freshman camp at Coach McGatlin's ranch to his final game his senior year at Golden – it was football. What were the things that mattered the most to Addison? Family. There was nothing that he loved more than his family. He absolutely adored his big sister Amber and it made his heart so happy when she met and married the love of her life, Erik. And then they had that precious baby girl. Addison absolutely adored his new niece, Josslyn – she had wrapped him around that tiny finger of hers in the short 4 ½ months that they had together, and it absolutely breaks our hearts that she will not know him. Family gatherings/holidays were his favorite with his Auntie Shari, Kimsey and Paul – especially when they included game nights and tons of laughter, normally with all of the boys getting in trouble for the inappropriateness of the jokes they were telling. Friends, Fishing and Football. His friends meant the world to him. The perfect day for Addison was a day at the lake, with a beer in hand, fishing with his buddies. Addison was always the one that would make his friends laugh and we have heard countless stories from his friends. The two things that they all have in common are his crazy sense of humor and his amazing kind heart. Fishing and Football went hand in hand with friends– on the lake, on the field, off the field (Go Broncos!) and on the couch or of course his beloved fantasy league. Addison is survived by his parents, John and Sandy Hanf of Lakewood, CO; sister, brother-in-law and niece, Amber, Erik and Josslyn Van Ryn of Milliken, CO; Grandfather, Louis Kimsey of Pueblo, CO; Grandmother, Eleanor (Uwe) Steinhorst of Weisbaden, Germany; Auntie Shari Cornelison and cousins, Paul Cornelison and Kimsey (Colin) Gumm of Highlands Ranch, CO; Uncle Chris and Julie Hanf of Sacramento, CA and cousins Kristin and Ian; Uncle Mitch and Phyllis Hanf of Ramsey, MN and cousins Tony, Emily (Brandon and Brynlee), Danae (Thearon) and Brian (Leyah); Aunt Jackie and John Peltier of Onamia, MN; Uncle Mike and Shirley Hanf of Warner Robbins, GA and cousins Steve (Stacey, Logan and Delaney). Preceded in death by Grandma Helen Kimsey, Pueblo, CO; Grandpa John and Grandma Nora of Mukilteo, WA; Uncle Ronnie Kimsey, of Pueblo, CO; Uncle Steve Kimsey of Pueblo, CO; and Aunt Joellen Hanf of Seattle WA. Addison will be so greatly missed by all that knew him. He was the kind of young man that anyone would be proud to call son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin or friend. It is impossible to imagine life without him to make us laugh (or cringe). We are devastated by his passing and cannot even begin to imagine life without him here on earth, but we are comforted knowing that he is now walking on streets of gold with our Father in Heaven, in perfect health without a care in the world and spending the days with a rod and reel in one hand, and a beer or whiskey in the other….
