John William Henrie, Sr.

John William Henrie, Sr. - December 9, 1944 - March 4, 2012 John William Henrie, Sr. passed away at home in the care of his family, Sunday, March 4, 2012. Henrie was born December 9, 1944, to parents, George and Ethel Henrie, in Denver, Colorado. At a young age Henrie loved to watch and participate in rodeos, was actively involved in sports, and participated in outdoor activities, such as fishing and hunting. He attended school in Fowler, CO, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. After discharge, he went on to work in the oil patches in Alaska, California, Colorado, Nevada, Wyoming and Utah. Henrie also loved to ride and exercise race horses, watch his kids participate in sports, and watch football and car races. He was married to LaWana Coulter for 27 years, and they had three children, Sabrina, John Jr., and Tara. He and LaWana raised their children in Shoshoni, WY, where Henrie was an active member in the Chamber of Commerce, helping out with events like the Old Time Fiddling Contest, Ride & Tie Days, One Shot Deer Hunt, and the Fishing Derby. Henrie was also the President of the first Lions Club in Shoshoni, with the largest number of members in the state. After his two oldest children graduated high school from Shoshoni, he and his family moved to Arizona, where he worked as a landscaper, and eventually retired at Fort Huachuca. Henrie spent the rest of his life in Arizona, actively participating in the American Legion, playing pool with his friends, and visiting the local arena in Benson, almost daily. Survivors include his companion, Patsy Getzwiller, of Benson, AZ; daughter, Sabrina (Bruce) Thoren of Shoshoni, WY; son, John (Kris) Henrie Jr. of Craig, CO; daughter, Tara (Jaime) Henrie of Thornton, CO, and sister Debra (Bill) Butler of Rocky Ford, CO. Grandchildren Cortney, Korinne, Joshua, and Jason; Danae (Milo) McPherson and Aspen; and Brandon. Great grandkids Jewell and Jaxson. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and extended Getzwiller/DeZonia family. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ethel Henrie.
