John H. Humpert

John ""Jack"" H. Humpert, Jr. was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado to John H. and Muriel W. (Clay) Humpert on August 23, 1932. Jack was the oldest of five children and was raised north of Kiowa, Colorado on a cattle ranch. After high school, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in France during the Korean conflict. When he returned state side, he continued working on the ranch until he retired. Jack took advantage of the GI Bill to earn a Bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State College. In addition to ranching, Jack held various positions over the years, including working on the Elbert County road crew, teaching math, and as the Elbert County Appraiser. He was elected county Assessor and held that position until 1984. He belonged to the American Legion Post #82 in Elizabeth and was an EMT and volunteer fireman for years. He married Wilda Garber in 1963 and they divorced in 1972. They had three children. In 1982 he married Alberta Hinshaw and she preceded him in death in 2005. Jack is survived by his wife, Luona Anderson; his daughters, Beth (Bob) Rook of Olney Springs, CO, Ann (Bob) McNees of Riverton, WY; his brother, Bob (Marion) Humpert of Castle Rock, CO; sisters Helen and husband Tom Rose of Cleburne, TX, Jean Pancoast of Farmington, NM, and Lori Brice of Louviers, CO; grandchildren Marti and husband Oren Batson, Jennifer, John, and James Rook, and Jon, Robby, and Ryan McNees; great grandchildren Hunter, Trent, Martinique, and Gabriella Rook; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son John Bradford Humpert, wife Alberta Humpert, and brothers-in-law Joseph ""Slip"" Brice, Dale Pancoast, and Jimmie Furr. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, March 16, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado at Staging Area 'A.'
