John Finbarr ""Jack"" Jones, Dean Emeritus and research professor at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, died on Wednesday, February 20 at the age of 83. A native of Ireland, he was internationally known as a scholar of social development and child welfare. He dedicated his work to improving the lives of global society's most vulnerable people: the poor, the displaced, and victims of war. It was under his leadership that the DU Graduate School of Social Work founded the Bridge Project, a program that supports the education of young people in Denver's public housing projects. He leaves his beloved wife Lois, son Sean and daughter Kristin, who remember him as a scholar, a poet, a linguist, a devoted husband and a loving father. Services will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 11am at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 5761 MacArthur Ranch Road, Littleton, Colorado 80124. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John's name to the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, Craig Hall, 2148 South High Street, Denver, Colorado 80210 or to Catholic Relief Services, 228 West Lexington Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21201.
