John Kerbaugh

September 28, 1940 — August 24, 2020

John Thomas Kerbaugh, beloved husband, father, and grandfather left for Heaven on August 24, 2020 after a brave battle with cancer.  He was 79.

John was born September 28, 1940 in North Wilkesboro, NC.  He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve, and an Audio Visual Manager/Specialist for United Airlines, for whom he worked from 1967 until his retirement in 2003. John loved coaching his sons’ football and baseball teams, serving as a community leader, and was an avid model railroader, collecting railroad artifacts and producing dioramas that highlighted his love for model building and his meticulous attention to detail.

He is survived by his wife Sherrill, his daughter Jennifer Edmondson (Paul), sons Scott Kerbaugh (Sharon) and Jon Kerbaugh (Laura), and his grandchildren Erica White (Trentin), Sarah Kerbaugh, Megan and Brendan Dierker, and Jonathan and Joseph Kerbaugh.  He was preceded in death by his parents Shoun Leonard Kerbaugh and Bessie Clo (née Rhodes) Kerbaugh, of North Wilkesboro, NC.

John spread joy, laughter, and unconditional love throughout his life.  Heaven has welcomed a wonderful angel.  All who knew him will miss his infectious smile and positivity, his wonderful sense of humor, his leadership, and most importantly his amazing heart and love for his family.  He will be laid to rest with Naval Honors in a private service at Fort Logan National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Denver Hospice (www.thedenverhospice.org) to help express their gratitude for the wonderful care and empathy they offered John in his final months.

“Every time I pass through their thoughts, THAT will be my memorial.”
