John Robert Kerr, son of Brian Kerr and Julie Kerr, born July 11, 1995 in Denver, Colorado, took his own life on May 5, 2018 in Denver, Colorado. John was lucky enough to be born with two big sisters waiting for him, Mary and Anne, and three sisters born at the same time, Chrissy, Clare and Catherine. John grew up in Littleton, where he attended Heritage High School and graduated in 2014. John was a natural baseball player at Heritage and loved playing basketball and golf. He had such grace in athleticism but was too humble to see it. John played baseball at Otero junior college in La Junta, Colorado for 2 years. John had a deep devotion to God and the Catholic Church and particularly prayed with Our Lady of Perpetual Help. He regularly attended mass, confession and adoration. He played soccer every week with the priests of St. Mary Parish and loved to join his passion for the Church and sports. He almost led the parishâs basketball team to a state title this past Spring. John discerned the priesthood and made a pilgrimage to Rome to explore his devotion. John was a wonderful son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle to Peter, William and Xavier, brother-in-law to Tom Burgess and Matthew Houtsma, grandson and friend, and always had the most handsome smile on his face. He brought light to all rooms he entered and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. During his time on staff at Snow Mountain Ranch in Granby, Colorado, John embarked on the adventure of meeting new friends and taking spontaneous hikes in the Rocky Mountains. He was always so proud to call Colorado home, finding the glory of God in the outdoors. Music was another huge passion of his. The combination of the two was most profoundly felt for John at Red Rocks concerts with his family and friends. John battled mental illness over the last few years but met his challenges with selflessness and grace. He was most passionate about what mattered in life, family and God. His priorities were aligned with heaven rather than the material world and he is deeply missed by the countless people he brought joy to during his life. He is joyfully reunited in Godâs Kingdom with grandparents Bill Shea, James A. and Betty Kerr, and also his Uncle Jack Kerr. The priests at St. Mary Catholic Church in Littleton have been so compassionate with the family and were very much a part of Johnâs life.
