John Leo Kreutzer

August 5, 1946 — October 11, 2012

John Leo Kreutzer of Parker, Colorado died on Thursday, October 11, 2012 in his home after complications from skin cancer. Born in Denver, Colorado on August 5, 1946 to Daniel and Helen Kreutzer, John was the oldest of a family of 16 children. On December 26, 1968, he married Susan Papish, whom he met in college. John received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Colorado State College in 1968. In 1980 he earned his Master of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado in school administration. He was a Commander in the U.S. Navy, where he served for 31 years combined through active duty and as a reservist. Outside of the Navy, John was an educator and administrator for the Mapleton Public School District. Always a teacher at heart, John loved to help young people learn. He was also passionate about working outdoors, having retired to own a ranch in Parker where he and his wife operated a boarding facility for horses. As an adult, John was active in the Boy Scouts of America, where he helped his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an avid reader, a student of history (particularly military history), and a lifelong fan of the Denver Broncos. John is survived by his wife, Susan, his sons, Matthew and Joseph, his siblings, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins (most of whom live in the Denver metropolitan area).
