John Lancelot

June 26, 1919 — February 9, 2008

John Edward Lancelot John passed away on Feb. 9, 2008, after complications from a hip fracture several months ago. He was born June 26, 1919 in Oil Hill, KS to Mary Lou (Henson) Lancelot and Harry Bailey Lancelot and grew up in Pawhuska, OK and Wichita, KS. John was a World War II veteran, serving from 1941-45. He was based in Italy with the 15th Army Air Corp, where he was wounded after more than 20 missions. He convalesced at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver. He married Leona Rickard in 1944 and had two sons. John returned to Wichita after the war, attended and graduated from Wichita State University in 1950 and from the University of Kansas Law School in 1953. He practiced law in Wichita before moving to Denver in 1961. He retired as an attorney for the Federal Government in 1990 after more than 20 years of service. John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leona, two sons, Trent (Donna) in Phoenix, Scott (Barbara) in Denver. A sister, Marjorie Daniel, preceded him in death. He leaves a brother, Harry B. Lancelot Jr. (C. Ernestine) of Wichita, and two sisters, JoAn Daniel of Houston, and Sarah Brown (Robert) of Bryan, TX. He is survived by four grandchildren, Randy, Margaret (Molly), Michael and David. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends mourn his passing. A private family service was held in Denver and he was interred at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. A memorial service will be scheduled later.
