John L. McCallin

John L. McCallin, 87, died February 26, 2006 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mitzi, a daughter, Kathleen (John) Gross of Castle Pines, and two sons, Daniel (Eileen) of Elizabeth, and Brian (Debra) of Centennial, nine grandchildren, Michael, David, and Ashlea Gross; Corra, Colin, Conor, Lauren, Patrick, and Luke McCallin, and two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Clare Gross. He is also survived by a sister, Julie (Holly) Bach, and a brother, Tom (Jean). John was born November 27, 1918 in Denver and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School. He served in the Navy during WWII. He began his career in 1938 with the Silver Engineering Company in Denver. He co-founded Steel, Incorporated in Commerce City in 1958. He was Chairman of Timberline Industries that owned Timberline Steel, Timberline Fasteners, Timberline Plastics, Steel Storage Systems, and McCallin Real Estate. He served as a member of the Denver Housing Authority for 10 years, and was a Board of Director of the Steel Service Center Institute for 15 years. He belonged to the Denver Athletic Club since 1955. Rosary will be held at 7 pm on Thursday at Horan & McConaty Mortuary, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., and Funeral Mass Friday at 11 am at Church of the Risen Christ, 3060 S. Monaco Pkwy. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 3629 W. 29th Ave. Denver, CO 80211.
