John Allen McCarthy

July 1, 1942 — June 14, 2013

John Allen McCarthy, age 70 of Aurora passed away June 14, 2013. He was born July 1, 1942 to Francis J. and Cecilia (Hagan) McCarthy in San Antonio, Texas. John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda (Rabideau) McCarthy; children Mary Beth (Jeff) Benner of Highlands Ranch, CO, John (Cindy) McCarthy of Tustin, CA, and Kevin (Bridget) McCarthy of Kingston, WA; grandchildren Kendall McCarthy, Ryan McCarthy, Cody Benner and Chelsea Benner; siblings Col. Francis J. McCarthy, Terry Horton and Jane Radke. John and Linda traveled extensively while calling many places in the United States home; Minnesota, Ohio, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and California before settling in the Denver area two and half years ago. With a degree in engineering from Purdue, John's work centered on toy manufacturing. As an expert in oversees sourcing, he made frequent trips to the Far East. He enjoyed many things in life; golfing, watching sports, barbequing on the deck with friends and family, reading and red wine. He and Linda's favorite getaways were the annual wine harvest in Paso Robles as well as the many other wineries in California. John was a very non-judgemental and selfless person. He enjoyed mentoring others both professionally and personally. It was very important to John to feed the hungry and he was very involved in his life with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In Denver he devoted his time to the Denver Soup Kitchen. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 10:30 in the morning at Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, 18000 E. Arapahoe Rd., in Foxfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Denver Catholic Worker's Soup Kitchen, c/o Tim Heinz, 6999 Poppy Court, Arvada, Colorado 80007.
