John M. McGowan

Passed away peacefully in Littleton, Colorado November 9, 2015 after a long illness. Born May 5, 1931, Cleveland, Ohio to Martin and Willie Gay McGowan. Airman First Class, U.S. Air Force 1951-1955. Investment professional. An avid game hunter, he traveled throughout Africa and India many times. He taught his children to love and respect the outdoors. Pre-deceased by his beloved wife Frances in 1977. John raised 6 daughters and 1 son, all of whom are successful professionals. John was consistently a reliable dispenser of wisdom on life's essentials. He loved telling stories of his African adventures and authored several books, including ""Sport Hunter in Africa."" Survivors include daughters Helen (Larry), Sara (Buddy), Amy (Larry), Jill (Chris), Carol (Bill), Barbara (Paul), and son Peter (Jody) in addition to 25 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial to be held Saturday, November 14th at 11:00 am at All Souls Catholic Church, Englewood, Colorado. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities or Meals on Wheels.
