‘Following a long battle with frontotemporal dementia, John McShane, died in Broomfield, CO on September 19, 2024, aged 75. He was born and raised in the Lawndale Neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA, and was known by some as the ‘Inquirer Kid’ after a stint as a newspaper delivery boy. He graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School. It was in Lawndale where he met his wife, Patricia; they married in 1973. He attended night school at Lasalle College where he studied finance. Prior to earning his degree, John was hired by Manufacturers Hanover Bank (“Manny Hanny”) in New York City. He went on to have a very successful career in banking/finance, working for First Pennsylvania Bank, Norwest, Gelco, National City Bank, among others before retiring in 2014.
John developed a passion for golf after spending his teenage years caddying at the local golf clubs in Philadelphia. A job change in 1980 saw John move to the Twin Cities, and he became a member at Hazeltine National Golf Club, where he spent many hours on the course. He was on their planning committee and helped work the 1991 US Open Golf Championship, which Hazeltine hosted. John was also passionate about music - a love he shared with his family - singing in several church choirs, attending countless musicals, ballets, and symphonic concerts. He was an avid reader of historical nonfiction and biographies.
John is survived by his children, Sean Patrick McShane of MN, Christopher Connell McShane of CO, and Monica Catherine McShane of Athens, Greece, as well as three grandchildren. He is also survived by his five brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Florence, and his wife, Patricia Catherine McShane (nee Maguire)
Celebrations of Life for John and Patricia McShane to be held in the Philadelphia area, tentatively planned for Easter weekend, April 19th-20th, 2025.‘
