John Carl Meyer, Jr. 7/12/1918 â 7/2/2009 John was born in Denver as the first child of Elizabeth Fastabend and John Carl Meyer. Idaho Springs was home for his early childhood, and the family later relocated to Covington, KY where John's younger brother Richard was born. A fortunate visit to his cousin Marjorie in Houston set in motion John's enrollment at the University of Texas, School of Geology the summer after high school. John pledged Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and those ties, along with those at the geology school, kept John connected to UT through the many moves required of a geology career. John served in the United States Army Air Corps, achieving the rank of Major. His excellent photos and other memorabilia from those WW2 years will be treasured by his grandchildren. Keeping an eye out for a pretty Texas girl, he met and fell in love with Virginia Gurney while both were working in Midland, Texas after the war. They were married for over 60 years. Gary was born in Midland and Bettye in Billings, Montana. Family raising years were primarily in Littleton and Oklahoma City. John continued his geology career in Dallas prior to retiring and enjoying a life of golf, tennis and friendships at the resort town of Lago Vista, Texas. Missing the seasons and the mountains, John convinced Virginia to return to Littleton where they have lived for the past ten years. Among John's interests in Littleton were Rotary Club, Republican Party functions and enjoying the many new friends made at Windcrest. John's family requests any memorials be directed to The Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin or Porter Hospice.
