John M. Opie, 75, of Golden, has gone to his eternal home with the Lord on Sunday February 8, 2009, after living a life of service to God, his family and his country. He grew up in Fargo, ND and enlisted with the U.S. Air Force. He then obtained a Masters in Social Work at and served the Denver Public Schools until his retirement. In retirement he became a political activist dedicated to making America a great nation for all. His children, George Opie of Williamsburg, VA, Gregory Opie of Golden, CO, and Jane Epstein of Philadelphia, PA, their mother Nancy Clement; and eight grandchildren - remember him for his dedication to family and for teaching character values by example. His sisters, Suzanne Parries of Jamestown, ND and Carolyn Motter of Hope, ND, remember him as a brother they looked up to in many ways. Public Visitation, 5-7 pm Thursday, February 12, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Blvd. Services, Friday February 13 at 9:30 am, also at the Funeral Home. Interment, Ft. Logan National Cemetery following services.
