John Porter

John H. Porter, 94, of Arvada, Colorado passed away on December 2, 2020.

John Howard Porter was born August 14, 1926 to humble beginnings in Jordan, Montana. He was a middle child of Homer O. Porter and Nellie Schliff. He had two brothers, Homer (deceased) and Matthew (deceased). While John loved the rigor of farm/cowboy life, he left Jordan at age 16 to join the Navy. John served in San Diego, CA until after World War II ended. At that time, John returned to Montana and used the GI Bill to begin his college education at Rocky Mountain College. It was there, that John met his beloved wife Betty (deceased), to whom he was married for the next 68 years. John completed his education and received an Electrical Engineering degree from Montana State University. After college graduation, John joined the Bell System Telephone Company as a line man; he held several positions in several cities in Montana while he climbed the organizational ladder. He was transferred to Denver, CO in 1970 where he assumed a director position in Network and IT. John retired from the Bell system after 40 years and then became a property manager, until age 88, for several apartments in the Denver Metro Area.

John will be remembered for his tenacity, his ability to problem-solve, and his willingness to help someone in need. John is succeeded by his son John F. and daughter Jacque, as well as his grandchildren: John D., Jordan, Hayley and Mikala.

Visitation is on Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 6-8pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado 80003. John will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery with his wife, Betty, in a private service.
