John Kuehl Scott age 86, of Parker, CO, passed away on February 17, 2018 in Lone Tree, CO. He was born May 13, 1931 in Linn Grove, IA to Arthur Jacobsen Scott and Matilda Ann Rose Scott. He was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Anne Hathaway. John is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 65 years, Marie Evelyn Scott; son Michael Scott (Lorraine); daughter Mary Jo Scott (John Kummer); grandchildren Keenan Scott (Gretchen), Erin Gallagher (Roger), Alexandre Scott, and Robin Switzer; great-grandchildren Annie Birman, Quintin Switzer, and Jack Switzer. John spent his school years 1st-12th grade in Sioux Rapids, Iowa and graduated in 1948 at the age of 16. He was active in all sports, football, basketball, and baseball, lettering in all three sports. While in school he worked in the local grocery store, at a men’s clothing store, had a paper route, hauled coal, and worked on several local farms doing all kinds of farm work. John graduated from Iowa State University in 1952 with a degree in Economics. He met Marie while at Iowa State and they married in June of 1952. In September of 1952 he reported to active duty as a 2nd Lieutenant in the USAF and was first assigned to Carswell AFB as a budget and accounting officer in Fort Worth, TX where son Michael was born. In 1954 while stationed at Altus, OK AFB he completed his commitment and took a position with Strategic Air Command at Offutt AFB in Nebraska as a Civil Servant. He took a brief sabbatical from government service and opened an Insurance Agency in Peterson, IA where daughter Mary Jo was born. As he remained in the AF Reserves, he was recalled to duty during the Cuban missile crisis. During his 34-year career in the Civil Service he also served at the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center in Denver and the Pentagon. In 1977 he was one of the original members of a new division SES (Senior Executive Services) and in 1986 he was called to the White House to receive the Distinguished Executive Award from then President Ronald Regan. He completed his government service in 1989 as the Deputy Comptroller of the Air Force. In his many years as a systems accountant in the Air Force he was affectionately referred to as “The Godfather of Accounting and Finance” by his peers. Awards: ' 1975 Secretary of the Air Force, Meritorious Service Award ' 1982 Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Service ' 1986 Presidential Rank Award of Distinguished Service ' 1988 Air Force Exceptional Civilian Service Award A public Memorial Service will be held on March 2, 2018 at 11:30am at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E County Line Rd, Centennial, CO. It will be preceeded by an open visitation with family at 11:00am and followed by internment with military honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:30 pm, Staging Area 'B'.
