Better known to his friends as Jack, left this world on September 12, 2010; he passed away suddenly after complications resulting from a recent surgery; he was 83. Jack is survived by his Wife of 62 years, Barbara Jean; five of his six children Beverly (Richard), Brookings OR. , Roger (Laurie), Mt. Pleasant TX. , Phyllis (Steve), Parker, CO., Jacqueline, Aurora CO., and William (Sherri), Huron Mi. His eldest son John V. Jr. preceded him in death in January 1997. He has 10 grandchildren Derek, Michael, Kavan, Barret, Steven, Ally, Shelby, Nicholas, Alyssa, and Adriana; 6 great-grandchildren; Nicolle, Danielle, Jason, Dylan, Livia and Kameron and the newest additions twin great-great grandsons Johnny and Ashton. Jack is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was a first generation American, born to Immigrant parents Harry (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and Marion (Wetherby, England) in Detroit Michigan, on March 13, 1927. Jack had two older brothers, Bill and Tom who have preceded him in death. Jack married Barbara Morrissey on September 11, 1948, after a stint in the Navy where he served on the USS New Jersey during WWII; Jack worked for 40 years at Detroit Edison first as a turbine operator and finally as a plant manager until he retired in 1988. Jack was a huge history buff, he loved reading, golfing and tending to his rose bushes. After retirement, Jack and Barbara moved to Colorado to be closer to the majority of their children. John lived in California; Roger lived in Texas; Phyllis and Jacqueline in Colorado; but even in retirement he didn't slow down. Jack volunteered at his church as an alter server and delivered meals to shut ins for the VOA Meals on Wheels program, as well as attending whatever activity his grand children had going on. Jack enjoyed traveling by car and spent a good portion of his retirement traveling between his children, spending as much time as possible with each. Jack was a voracious reader and had a never ending desire to learn. John V. (Jack) Skene will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Services for him will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church 13120 E. Kentucky, Aurora Co. 80012 on Thursday September 16, 2010. The rosary will start at 9:30am, followed by a mass at 10:00am and a luncheon reception at Queen of Peace's Nevin Hall.
