John Roger Strasheim was born on April 17, 1944 and raised in Kimball, Nebraska by Alex and Elizabeth Strasheim. He grew up with three brothers: Larry, Wes and Gene, and three sisters: Janet (Simone), Kathey and Helen. He was the second to youngest of the seven children.
John completed his undergraduate degree in Accounting at the University of Wyoming and graduated with honors in 1966. He passed his CPA exam his senior year of college and moved to Denver, Colorado in his early 20’s to begin his career as a certified public accountant (CPA).
Shortly thereafter, he married his now late wife Karen at the age of 24 (in 1968), and they had three daughters: Connie (now aged 50), Wendy (aged 48) and Julie (aged 47).
John was a CPA and auditor throughout his nearly 50-year career, from 1967-2016, approximately. In the later years of his practice, he established his own accounting firm and worked alongside his wife Karen, who was his office manager and administrator. He was very successful in business and had many long-term clients and high-profile accounts over the years, including DIA Airport and the Colorado Rockies’ baseball stadium.
John was an honorable, hardworking, intelligent, loyal, generous, kind, ethical and faithful man. He truly exemplified what it means to be a provider and family man. He taught his children the value of hard work, integrity and responsibility. He was always faithful in his commitments to his family, colleagues and clients.
John was a humanitarian and a longtime member of Rotary International, and received the Paul Harris Fellow award for his generous contributions to Rotary. He was also a member of the speaking club Toastmasters International.
Over the years, John was an adventurer and athlete who had a wide variety of interests and hobbies, including running marathons, golfing, football, hiking, boating, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, traveling, classical music, playing the clarinet—and rollercoasters! He was also an animal lover, and had a number of pets over the years, including Sheltie dogs. As a child, he raised pigeons, and was especially fond of birds throughout his life.
During John’s retirement years, he traveled with his late wife Karen all over the world on over 35 cruises, which provided rich times of enjoyment for them both.
John was an exemplary husband, father and colleague: a wonderful man who was, and is, deeply loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many.
