John G. Thom

John G. Thom, Jr. passed peacefully on June 12. Born December 5, 1947 in Rochester MN, he grew up in Los Angeles, the third of ten children of the late Dr. and Mrs. John G. Thom. He was a USMC veteran, where he received a purple heart. After spending summers with the US Forest Service as a firefighter, he graduated from Humboldt State University with a BS in Special Education. Johnnie served as a Special Ed Teacher and Soccer Coach in the Denver School District for over 25 years. An avid fisherman and Denver Broncos fan, he was known for his infectious laugh and sense of humor. Johnnie is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 22 years, Debbie (Slack), and seven of his siblings. He also enjoyed a special relationship with his in-laws Ben Slack and the late Evelyn Slack and brother-in-law Dave Slack, his wife Leni and their grandchildren; Viewing, Tuesday, 5-7 PM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Blvd. Funeral Mass, Wednesday, 10:30 AM, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 3549 Navajo Street.
