John Harold Traudt was born May 22, 1925 in the Denver neighborhood of Globeville, to Katherine Hankle Traudt and Johannes Traudt, the descendant of Germans from Russia. In 1928 the family moved to South Denver. John graduated from South High in 1943 where he excelled in mathematics, football, and track and field, sharing at one time the Colorado state record in the four-man 400-yard relay. Upon graduation, he began employment with Mountain Bell while waiting to become a U.S. Navy Cadet and ultimately a fighter-aircraft aviator. He served from August 1943 to July 1947. He graduated from the University of Denver Electrical Engineering program in 1949. He resumed employment with Mountain Bell, retiring from U.S. West in 1986 with over 40 years of service. On May 21, 1950 he married Maxine Luchsinger in Columbus, Nebraska. He was a lifetime member of Salem United Church of Christ, a Colorado registered professional engineer, a member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, and volunteer for the Boy Scouts and other local groups. John enjoyed vacations with his family in the Rocky Mountains, other states and abroad. He loved growing flowers, especially roses. John was admired and deeply loved by family and friends. He is survived by: Maxine, his children Paul J. Traudt (Sue) of Henderson, NV, Michelle L. Curtin (Danny) of Aurora, CO, Jewel Marie Traudt of Denver, CO; grandchildren Andrea Curtin of Pittsburgh, PA, Emily Curtin (Kai) of Las Vegas, NV, Jason Morrison of Denver, CO, Katherine Morrison of Colorado Springs, CO; and great-granddaughter Ella Curtin of Las Vegas, NV. There will be Visitation time on Thursday, December 3 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Horan & McConaty Funeral Service, 1091 South Colorado Boulevard, Denver. Funeral Service will be at 10 AM on Friday December 4 at Salem United Church of Christ, 5300 East Florida Avenue, Denver.
