John R. Waggoner was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He spent his childhood playing baseball, earning merit badges with the Boy Scouts, and swimming. His love of the water led to a swimming scholarship at the University of Colorado Boulder. While working towards his bachelor's degree, JD, and MBA he met, fell in love with, and eventually married Jodi McFarland. They were together for almost five decades.
Around 1980 he moved his small but growing family from Boulder to Littleton, Colorado where he would reside the rest of his life. He spent the majority of his career as an early partner with, and later president of, Lowe Enterprises, Denver division, developing commercial real estate.
He served on many boards including The Children's Museum in Denver. Passing on his mastery of competitive swimming to children, he coached teams in both Boulder and Littleton. He contributed to charitable causes close to him. When he was not working to provide for his wife and family, he enjoyed cars, golf, reading spy novels, watching sports on Sundays, and traveling on cruise ships with his wife.
He spent the later years of his life caring for his wife, fishing, and enjoying time with his granddaughter who knew him as ""Grandsir,"" a moniker he selected for himself.
He is survived by his wife Jodi, daughter Kate, son John Jr, daughter in law Katie, and granddaughter Grace.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
