John Edward Walker

September 23, 1934 — January 22, 2005

John Edward Walker, Sr. (Scrappy) John Edward Walker, Sr. (Scrappy) was born on September 23, 1934 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He was the second born to the late Allan Walker and Margaret Lillian Harris. His mother originally gave him the name Scrappy because of his scrawny size as a boy. As he grew older, the name took on a new meaning for Scrappy who developed a reputation for always standing up for himself. He was baptized and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ft Smith, Arkansas. He also attended St John School through the eight grade. Upon graduation from St John's he attended and graduated from Lincoln High School, Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He then moved to Denver, CO and worked at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital where he simultaneously attended trade school with an emphasis in business administration. After which, he honorably served in the United States Air Force, domestically and abroad. After leaving the military, he returned to Denver, CO and worked as Transportation Supervisor at Denver General Hospital. John was known for 'cutting a fair rug' on the dance floor. He was extremely charismatic and had a way of naturally drawing people to him. Children were a big part of John's life especially babies, who he would inevitably talk to when they were around. His own children remember him as a family man who regularly took them to church and to local events. John was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Allan his brothers James, Raymond, Thomas and one sister Josephine Asbury. He will live in the hearts of his children; Dawn, Michael (Angela), Roshawn, John T., Don, Jamie (Michael) and John E. Stepchildren; Rhonda, Rena, Billy and Bobby. He also leaves to cherish fond memories one brother; William Madison (Versie) of Denver, CO, two sisters; Margaret Logan of Denver, CO, Sally Reynolds of St. Louis, Missouri, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews, and many devoted relatives and friends. On Saturday, January 22, 2005, the very full life of John Edward Walker, Sr. (Scrappy) ended. He will forever be fondly remembered for his outgoing personality and sense of humor.
