John "Doug" Douglas Morton, was born July 10, 1950 to John and Carole Morton in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away suddenly on March 29, 2022 in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
Doug graduated from Skyline High School in 1968 and went on to attend Westminster College, where he graduated with a degree in business. In later years he was a board member of Westminster College. Doug started working in the sporting goods business at Wolfe’s Sporting Goods at the age of 14 when his dad hired him, and went on to work for Gart Brothers. He then went on to be the CEO and Chairman of the Board at Sports Authority. His entire career was in the sporting goods industry.
Doug married the love of his life Keren Fowlke on August 4, 1975, Doug and Keren moved their young family from Salt Lake City to Denver Colorado in 1991. Their marriage was sealed in the Denver LDS Temple on December 3rd, 2019.
Doug was an avid sports enthusiast involved in skiing, fishing, shooting, scuba diving, boating, and loved the outdoors. One of his favorite things was traveling to Hawaii or any tropical destination. After Doug’s retirement he and Keren traveled the world. When the grandchildren started to arrive, one of Doug and Keren’s greatest joys was spending time with Kenzie, Maddie, Kenna and Cooper. The grandchildren always looked forward to grandpa's pancakes, hanging out at the pool and trips to Winter Park. Doug was a very generous and compassionate person.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer, Keri (Gary), Melissa and Justin (McKayla) Morton; grandchildren, Makenzie and Madison Feil, McKenna and Cooper Morton and step-grandchildren, Campbell and Isa Lancaster; siblings, Larry Morton and Debby (Mike) Fleisch; his puppy Nala and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Keren and parents John and Carole Morton.
We are so deeply saddened to have lost such a kind and loving person at such a young age who touched so many of our lives. But we are grateful to know that he is with Keren and his parents once again.
