John "Jl" Garrett

March 28, 1953 — February 27, 2021

JL, a husband, father, and grandfather, passed peacefully in his home February 2021, at the age of 67. Most of his life he was a General Manager and Superintendent of construction companies, plus a Proprietor of Garrett Construction. He built huge commercial buildings of 200,000 sq. ft. in the DC area, to small fire stations. One beautiful building he built in the CO area is the World Prayer Center outside of Colorado Springs. After retiring from building, he drove trucks and dispatched for a truck company.

JL was born in Abilene TX. Although he lived in many states during his lifetime, he was a Texan through and through. He was a private person; it took him a while to befriend you. The Lord was the head of his life, very much a Christian. The last few weeks here on earth, he would say, “soon I will be Graduating to Heaven”, or “I am going to be lifted up”.

His grandparents mainly raised him on a huge farm outside of Abilene. He loved telling stories of his childhood on the farm with his dog Tippy.  One thing JL loved to do was own and ride Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. He owned two different Harleys, a two-seater he and Shar rode often and a one just for himself. There was a subtle dry sense of humor about John, most of the time he had gotten you before you knew it. Of course, we will all miss him in many ways.

JL is survived by his wife of 30 years, Shar; his daughter, Tawnya, her husband Doug and grandchildren, Ainslie, Garrett, Hayden; his step-daughter Mindy, her husband Gene an grandchildren Lawson and KyraAnn; his sister Myra; and his brother, Gene. He is predeceased by his step-daughter Kyra Ann; his grandparents Florence and Lee Otis; and his mother, Norma Jean; and his father, Eugene.

JL’s wishes were to have a small Celebration to Life Service in the beautiful outdoors near the Sub-division where he lived, which will be held this Spring with a small band and his pastor leading. Ice cream will be served and a lot of desserts, those were JL’s favorites.
