It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jonathan Peter Nelson, known lovingly to those closest to him as JP. Jonathan, born May 18, 1996, left this earth far too soon on November 18, 2024, at 28 years old. JP was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his parents, Patti and Pete Nelson, his brother Alex (Alexandra), and his sister Katie (Tanner). He also leaves behind a family who adored him including his nieces and nephew—Regan, Maxwell, Carter, and Kennedy— his best furry friend, Bre, and a wide circle of friends who considered him family.
JP's adventurous spirit was one of his most defining traits. His passion for the outdoors and the water took him to places far and wide, earning him the skills of a master diver. Whether swimming in oceans across the globe or hiking rugged trails, JP was in his element when surrounded by nature. His heart beat was in rhythm with the water, and he found joy in exploring the world beneath the surface.
More than just a lover of adventure, JP was a kind soul with a generous heart. His compassion and willingness to help others made a lasting impact on everyone he met. He could always be counted on for a laugh, a helping hand, or simply being there when someone needed him most. His presence was a gift, and his loss leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. JP’s spirit will live on in the memories of the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, but forever remembered with love, admiration, and gratitude. May his adventurous soul rest in peace.
The funeral service will be held on Monday December 2, 2024 11am at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church: 5555 S Yosemite St. Greenwood Village, CO 80111. The graveside service will take place at Fairmount Cemetery at 1pm. You are invited to join the Nelson family at their home, immediately following the graveside service, for a continued celebration of JP's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his memory to Ocean Conservancy, a charity that shares Jonathan’s passion for the ocean. Ocean Conservancy Donation ~ In Loving Memory of JP Nelson
