Joseph Robert Berberick

July 29, 1931 — August 1, 2011

Joseph Robert Berberick was born in Topeka, KS on July 29, 1931 and passed away at his home in Lakewood, CO on August 1, 2011. Husband of Diane; father of Dave (Debbie), Kathy (Brian Cross), Dan (Tammy); grandfather of Kristen, Kim, Katie, Andrew and Matt; brother of Harold (Alice); brother-in-law of Dolores and Lee Schlessman. He is also survived by numerous relatives and good friends. Joe grew up in East Denver and graduated from Regis Jesuit High School in 1949 and attended Regis University. He played football at Regis High and was named to the All City Team. He sold Yellow Pages Advertising for USWest for 28 years retiring in 1990. Prior to that he worked for Petroleum Information Co. and for British American Oil Co. He was also in the Air Force during the Korean War. After retiring from USWest, he tried his hand at acting, appearing in a few local commercials and the Perry Mason and Dick Van Dyke shows. Joe had a fulfilling retirement. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Dominican Sisters. He was an usher at Notre Dame Church. He was fortunate enough to see Pope John Paul and Mother Theresa. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, playing in his garden, and reading in his lounge chair in the back yard. He loved to travel. Some of his most joyous times were family vacations. There were numerous trips to Hawaii, Idaho, and Massachusetts. He and his friend Paul had fishing adventures in Jamaica, The Bahamas, Cabo San Lucas, Hawaii, Alaska, and Florida. As soon as he got home from one vacation, he started planning the next trip with in depth research on the vacation spot and writing meticulous notes about what he wanted to do. Joe loved watching sports. He was an avid Broncos fan, but his biggest joy was watching his children and grandchildren compete in various sports. Even as his health was beginning to fail, he made sure that he was in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to cheer his son Dave on as he competed in the Ironman Triathlon in 2007. Joe always enjoyed adventuresome activities planning something special for each birthday. He did a tandem sky dive on his 60th birthday and followed that with hot air balloon rides, glider rides, ultra light flights, float plane rides, parasailing and race cars. The only thing that made these adventures better is if he were accompanied by his children and grandchildren. Joe will be greatly missed. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 2190 S. Sheridan Blvd in Denver. Committal at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. A reception will follow at Precious Memories Events Center, 11968 W. Jewell Avenue, Lakewood, CO 80228. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joe may be sent to Regis Jesuit High School Scholarship Fund, 6400 S. Lewiston Way, Aurora, CO 80016.
