Joseph R. Caruso

Joseph R. Caruso, age 94, passed away March 21, 2016. He was born October 27, 1921 to William and Carolina Caruso in Walton, New York. Joe is survived by sons; William J. Caruso of Denver, CO and James E., Connie (Cooper) Caruso of South Glens Falls, NY; grandchildren Kristin Caruso of Denver, CO and Tara Patton of San Rafael, CA; two great-grandsons, Bennett Patton and Austin Patton of San Rafael, CA. Joe is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Mary (Crane) Caruso. Joe served in World War II and entered the Army on August 24, 1942. He was deployed to the 3rd Infantry Division and served under General George Patton where he was assigned to the 441st Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. He rose to the rank of Technician 5 as a gunner and half-track driver. He served on the front lines in Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. Joe received several Battle decorations and citations and took part in the liberation of Rome. He was honorably discharged on November 22, 1945.
