Joseph Ernest Francois Garneau

December 13, 1927 — July 9, 2012

Born on Dec. 13, 1927 in Woonsocket, RI and entered heaven on July 9, 2012 in Northglenn, CO. Married Marian Cecilia Sitt on February 9, 1952; celebrated 60 years of marriage in Feb. 2012. Resident of Northglenn, CO for 45 years and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary since 1967, even before it was named IHM and was affectionately known as ""St. Leroy's""; retired Senior Master Sergeant, USAF. Father of Marie Genz (d), Joseph E. F. Garneau Jr., Michele Garneau, Monique Garneau, Paul Garneau, Edouard Garneau and Dave Garneau; father-in-law to Terry Genz, Robin Garneau, Robert Ramos, Mia Garneau, Denise Garneau and Vicki Garneau; grandfather to sixteen beloved grandchildren; great-grandfather to six precious great-grandchildren; Joe was also a favorite uncle, great-uncle, brother-in-law and godfather. Survived by wife Marian, preceded in death by daughter Marie Genz and granddaughter Crystal Merritt; and sorely missed by his six children and countless extended family members and friends. Joe ""Pépère"" Garneau was the solid foundation of an amazing, loving family; he lived as the example of a man whose devotion to family and friends was only second to his love for God. Normally reserved but with a whip-smart humor and a twinkle in his eye, Joe stood as a support for everyone in need, giving all he had for love of his fellow man. Joe was supremely intelligent, compassionate, talented and faithful; in his own words, ""he was a good boy."" As we celebrate his life, remember his love and believe in God's promise for his new life, we still hear: ""Say it in French, Pépère."" Vigil Service on Monday, July 23rd at 7PM, Funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 24th at 10:30AM; both at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 11385 Grant Drive, Northglenn, CO. A reception will follow at the church. Burial with military honors at Ft. Logan National Cemetery will be Thursday, July 26th, 2012 at 11:00AM. Family and friends will be meeting at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel at 9:30AM to go in escorted procession to Fort Logan for the ceremony.
