Joe Grein, 28, wants all of his family and friends to know that he moved to his new home in heaven, on October 12, 2009. Joe was born March 24, 1981, in Denver, Colorado, to Kevin Grein and Carrie (Boettcher) Grein. Joe grew up in the Brighton area and attended school at Zion Lutheran Church & School. He was active in many sports, including baseball where he starred as a second baseman. Joe graduated from Brighton High School in 1999. He attended college at both CSU and CU-Denver. Joe married Susan Arambula on January 27, 2006, in Brighton. His little ""mini-me"", son Jacob Eugene, was born on February 13, 2007. Joe's dream was to become a career firefighter. He joined the Federal Heights Fire Department as a Volunteer Firefighter in 2004, and also served for a time with the Fort Lupton Fire Department. Although he became seriously ill with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2008, he kept studying and became certified as a paramedic. On October 6, 2009, the Federal Heights City Council recognized Joe with a proclamation designating him as an Honorary Career Paramedic/Firefighter with the City of Federal Heights. He found peace in his hobbies of fishing, camping, cooking and gardening. He loved to try new recipes on his family. Joe also loved spending free time with family and friends and watching movies. Joe leaves behind his wife, Susan; son and hero, Jacob; parents Kevin (Linda) and Carrie; brother, Steven (Stephanie); nephew, Alexander; grandparents, Ivan and Joan Grein, Greg Boettcher, and Pat Matlock; step-siblings, Andrew, Rachel and Mark Parrott; parents-in-law, Joe and Laura Arambula; sister-in-law, Denise (Johnathan) Carruth; many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members; and many friends and fellow firefighters. Many thanks to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, especially Dr. Jeff Matous and Megan Anderson, for all their care and support during Joe's almost two year battle. Also many thanks to the Federal Heights Fire Department for the fundraisers and unfailing support. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 15, 2009, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton. Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 16, 2009 at 10:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 1400 Skeel Street, Brighton. Burial follows at Elmwood Cemetery, in Brighton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to assist with Jacob's education to the Joseph E. Grein Donation Account at any Vectra Bank.
