Joseph A. Hannan, III

Joseph A. Hannan, III, 82, of Centennial died suddenly at his home on November 17, 2011. Mr. Hannan was born in 1929 in Greenwich, Connecticut, the son of the late Joseph A. Hannan, Jr. and Rosemary Edwards Hannan. After graduating from the Rye public schools, he attended Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. Following Korean War combat service in the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship USS Missouri, he was employed for 37 years in the international department of Texaco, Inc., where his postings included cities in Senegal, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Haiti, Jamaica and Trinidad. Mr. Hannan subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Miami. An avid student of history, he was equally at home firing barbed letters to Washington politicians and [mostly supportive] letters to Al Lewis of the Denver Post newspaper. Mr. Hannan is survived by his four children, Kathleen Marques of Hyannis, Massachusetts, Natalie Hannan (Asadolah Hadadzadeh) of Suwanee, Georgia, James A. Hannan (Rev. Jacqueline) of Porter, Texas and Susan Hannan-Lopez (Jose) of Ocala, Florida; by his former wife, Lois; by his 8 grandchildren (Joel (Jillian) and Philip Marques, Jessica Perera, James A. Hannan, Jr., Christina Hannan, Parisa Hadadzadeh, Shaheen Hadadzadeh and Sabrina Rose Lopez); by a great-granddaughter, Maggie Marques; by his sisters, Sister Mary Berchmans Hannan of Washington, D.C. and Susan E. Hannan of Lewes, Delaware; and by his brothers, Myles Hannan of Bluffton, South Carolina and Michael B. Hannan of Morris Plains, New Jersey. A Committal Service with military honors will be held Monday, December 5, 2011, 1:30 P.M., at Fort Logan National Cemetery ~ Pavilion 'B', 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, in Denver, Colorado. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Joseph's name to the USS Missouri Memorial Association at mightymomembers.org/join.
