Joseph F. Kral

August 1, 1923 — April 4, 2011

Joseph Kral--husband, father, grandfather and friend--passed away peacefully on April 4, 2011, in Centennial Colorado. ""Joe,"" to almost everyone who knew him, was born on a farm in Connecticut in 1923 along with his twin sister, Mildred. He grew up in the New York City borough of Queens and lived most of his life on Long Island. He and his wife Margaret moved to Colorado in 1989 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Joe was part of the ""greatest generation"" and served in the Army in World War II, with duty stations throughout North Africa and Europe. Serving on the General Staff, he had frequent contact with some of the war's greatest generals-- Eisenhower, Patton and Bradley. After the war he returned to New York and began a successful 40 year career as a trader on Wall Street. After moving to Colorado, he took a job at King Soopers where he worked 13 years. A fixture at the store, he became known to many in the community as the man who gave pennies out to children to ride the mechanical pony ride. He is survived by Margaret, his beloved wife of 60 years; daughters Karen and Peggy, and his son John; grandchildren Stephen, Curtis, Elizabeth, Nathan and Daniel; daughter-in-law Paula and son-in-law Fred; and numerous nieces and nephews. He touched many lives, and will be sincerely missed by all that knew him. Public visitation Sunday, April 10, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Horan & McConaty, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard. Memorial Service Monday, April 11, at 12:00 pm at Horan & McConaty, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard. Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
