Joseph Walter Lehman, age 90, passed away on May 13th 2024. Mr. Lehman was a lifelong Colorado resident who proudly served as a marine in the US Military. Mr. Lehman’s family owned a greenhouse off Jackson and Florida where after leaving school in the 9th grade he worked for his parents. In 1955 he began his racing career at the age of 22, racing in most every oval track division in Colorado along with events in several neighboring states. He became one of Colorado’s premier and most adored race car drivers fondly known as ‘Gentleman Joe’. Mr. Lehman received many accolades throughout his racing career including multiple track championships and being inducted into the Colorado Motor Sports Hall of Fame. Leaving his mark on the racing community, Joe continued to drive well into his 80s. Joe Lehman also owned a service station named Lehman’s Service Center off Leetsdale Drive and Forest and after selling that worked for U-Haul for several decades.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Charles Lehman and Emelia B Lehman, bothers George Lehman, Bill Lehman and sisters Mildred Baker and Mary Weber, and spouse, Lois Lehman.
Mr. Lehman is survived by his son, Joseph C Lehman and 2 granddaughters, Melody A Lehman and Ariel A Gallegos along with stepsons, KC Everett, his wife Kris and sons Kyle and Ryan, RJ Everett, his wife Linda and sons Tyler and Troy along with many nieces and nephews.
