Joseph R. ""Joe"" Martinez

May 16, 1924 — March 24, 2019

Joseph Reginald Martinez, 94 of Golden, Colorado was born on May 16, 1924 in the San Luis Valley in Southern Colorado to Marcelino Martinez and Josefita Gomez and peacefully passed away on March 24, 2019.

He is predeceased by his wife Julia A. Martinez (Cordova) for whom he was married for 61 years. He is survived by his eight children, Marilyn L. Martinez, (Joe Medina), W. JoAnn White, Joseph T. Martinez (Barbara), Regina M. Maes (Dennis), Kathy G. Martinez, R. Stanley Martinez, James R. Martinez and J. Michael Martinez (Robyn).

Over the years his family grew to 28 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren. He was so proud of his large family.

He is remembered most for the extraordinary love and support he gave to his loving wife Julia and large family. His life focus was to be there for his family. As a convert to Catholicism, he grew to love the church and attended mass every Sunday (come rain or shine) until his last month of life.

He raised his children in the same Catholic faith making it possible for them to receive a Parochial education at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic school, Annunciation and Cathedral High Schools in Denver.

Joe worked in the Meat Packing Industry and as a Property Investor and Manager over the years. He provided abundantly for his family exemplifying a strong work ethic that was admired and emulated by his entire family who affectionately referred to him as ""Grandpa Bear"".

Reggie (referred to by his Martinez/Gomes family) was the last of his 12 siblings to leave this life. He often spoke about how much he missed his wife Julia, his ""Mama"" Josefita, his father Marcelino, 7 brothers and 5 sisters and the family farm on which he grew up in the Village of Mogote, outside of Antonito, in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife Julia in the Ascension Mausoleum at Mount Olivet. His family knew he was tired. He is now resting in God's Loving Arms.
