Joseph Mcconnell

Joseph D. McConnell, 86, of Northglenn passed away on November 5, 2020 at Villagio of Broomfield. Born on March 3, 1934 in Leadville, Colorado, he was the son of William Allen and Mary Florence (Oravetz) McConnell. Joe married Marlene (Killinen) on September 20, 1955 in Leadville and together they shared 65 years of marriage.

The family moved to Denver in 1958 and Joe worked for the State of Colorado Department of Revenue as a computer programmer for 31 years, retiring in 1989.

Joe loved the Colorado mountains and was eager to share those experiences with his family. He enjoyed alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and hiking. He was a member of the Colorado Mountain Club, making it to the top of numerous 14,000-foot peaks.

Joe also enjoyed softball, basketball (especially the Boston Celtics), baseball and bowling.

Joe will be remembered for his strong handshake, quick wit and sense of humor. He was a very loving and involved husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Marlene, he is survived by son, Joe McConnell, daughter, Karen Barton (Duane), and daughter, Laura Abate (Pat). He leaves behind four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sister, Jean DeSelm (Marv) and brother, Bill McConnell (Florence).

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, November 18,2020, 11am (eulogy will begin at 10:50am) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 11385 Grant Dr., Northglenn. Committal Service to follow at 1pm at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 12801 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge. Please note that current COVID restrictions limit the attendance to 50 people.
