Joseph Patrick âPatâ Shovlin, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at the age of 88. He was born December 27, 1929 and was raised in Denver, Colorado. Pat was the youngest of two sons of Anna L. and Francis Earl Shovlin. Pat attended St Dominicâs Elementary School, Skinner Jr. High and graduated in 1947 from North High School in Denver, Colorado. Pat received an Associateâs Degree in Fire Science from Red Rocks Community College. Pat proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from July of 1950 until his honorable discharge in May of 1954. On April 18, 1953, Pat married the love of his life Marian Smith. They were married for 63 years until Marian passed in 2016. Together they raised four daughters. One of Patâs greatest passion in life was serving as an Aurora Fireman. He faithfully served the City of Aurora for 30 years from 1958 until his retirement in 1988. Pat continued public service for five more years serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Security Fire Department outside of Colorado Springs. Pat was known for his public service as a firefighter, his love for family and compassion for others. His sense of humor and sharing of stories will be missed. He loved spending time with family and friends. Pat is survived by his daughters: Anne Shovlin, Eileen Shovlin, Betty Galbraith and Linda Choun and her husband Craig Choun; grandchildren: Brandon Galbraith, Megan Choun, Brittany Wolma and her husband Kyle Wolma, Kayla Choun and Ethan Choun. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; and his brother, Hugh Shovlin. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 10:00 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church, 1243 Kingston Street, Aurora, Colorado with a reception following at the church. Interment will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery - Area âCâ on Friday February 23, 2018 at 9:15 AM, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80235.
