His children: Brenda, and her husband Phil Christopher; Brian, and his wife Chaundra Tangi; his grandchildren: Rachael Botello and her significant other Sergio Rosales; Maddie Jones and her fiancée Kanyon Shouse; Daniel Tangi and Kariah Tangi; and his great-grandchildren Luna Shouse and Alina Rosales to be born in September; along with his nephew and nieces: Chris Giebler, Erin Brnak, Tammy Baca, and Elisa Thurber.
He is survived by his sister Danielle, her husband Robert Morando, and numerous other extended family members.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Angela Tangi and his sister Kathy Tangi.
Joe grew up in Binghamton, New York and after switching to multiple schools he found one that fit his wild spirit and graduated from North High School in Binghamton in 1968. After high school, in October of 1968, Joe enlisted in the United States Air force where he served America for 21 years. He worked in various capacities including running the MWR (Morale, Welfare & Recreation) shop where he got to meet American Astronauts John Glenn and Jack Lousma. Joe finished his military career as an Industrial Engineer, retiring as Master Sergent in 1989. In 1969 Joe bought the first love of his life – his 1969 AMC Javelin. He still owns this car and was in the process of restoring it back to its original glory prior to his passing. In 1994 Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration through California Coast University at the age of 44. Joe moved into the private sector as a Management Engineer in the healthcare field for an additional 20+ years until he fully transitioned into retired life. He devoted his free time to family and golf.
At age 19, he met Dolly, the true love of his life, in Denver, CO at the Stout Street Dancing Club where she initially turned down his request for a slow dance. Thankfully, he persisted and asked her for a fast dance and the rest is beautiful history. They were married on June 27, 1970. Together they have built a wonderful, strong family and spent many years working hard and having fun. Some of Joe’s hobbies included making & selling string arts, detailing cars, hunting, camping, water-skiing, being an outstanding handyman, and spending time with his family…but his favorite pastime came a bit later in life when he discovered golf. In his retirement, Joe played as many rounds of golf as the day would allow and developed many friendships where he impacted even more lives of people he met.
In his Military and Professional career, some of his achievements and accomplishments are: Noncommissioned Officer of the Year in 1982, participated in the Military-lead Judge Advocacy Program, Received the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1977 and 1980, Received the Meritorious Service Medal in 1976, Received the USAF Manpower Management Award for Professional Excellence in 1985. His professional memberships included: Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), senior member; Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS); member, Society of Health Systems (SHS); member and Directors of Management Engineering (DOME), Chair; and member of the “Robert Wood Johnson Foundation” faculty. Joe was also a Six Sigma Green Belt and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
Joe has gone to be with our Heavenly Father and play endless rounds of golf. While his time with us here is no longer, he leaves behind countless memories of love, laughter, an unwavering commitment to family, and a quiet strength we treasure and strive to achieve ourselves.
