Joseph Claude Twogood

July 20, 1964 — April 15, 2009

""And now as I journey towards the light, Father hear the words I pray, Let not all those I leave behind, Mourn for loss, But rejoice in gain, For I am homeward bound."" Joseph Claude Twogood, 44, passed away April 15, 2009, of Adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN). AMN is a rare inherited metabolic disease that Joe battled with most of his adult life. He was born July 20, 1964, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a son of Pamela Joan Bartkus Twogood and Roy Olin Twogood Sr. Joe is a very special soul. He has, and continues to touch the lives of many. Joe had a great love for learning and was always furthering his education. For many years he had tutored people of all ages in many different areas of education. He had most recently been teaching 4th Grade and was completing a Masters program. He enjoyed cooking and shopping, he had a great sense of humor and loved his family. We, his family, are proud of his strength, tenacity, and sheer will. He was a loving son, brother, father and friend and will be missed by many. Joe is survived by his son, Evan Joseph Twogood; Evan's mother and Joe's former wife, Karen; Joe's mother and father, Pamela and Roy; brothers: Roy Twogood Jr. (and his wife, Theresa); Randolph Twogood (and his wife, Carol); Shawn Twogood (and his wife, Sylwia); niece, Ashley; and nephew, Lukas. A viewing will be held on Monday, April 20th, from 10:30-11:30am, at Horan & McConaty, 3101 So. Wadsworth Blvd, in Lakewood, Colorado. Following the viewing, we will travel in an escorted procession to Crownhill Cemetery, 7777 W. 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO, for a Graveside service scheduled for 12 Noon. A Memorial service will also be held on Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4225 W. Yale Ave., in Denver. This service will begin at 1:30pm. Friends and family are welcome to greet the family at the Church from 1:00-1:30pm. Memorial donations on Joe's behalf may be made to: United Leukodystrophy Foundation (ULF) 2304 Highland Drive Sycamore IL 60178 Adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN) with cerebral involvement, is what Joe battled with most of his adult life. AMN effects approximately 30, 000 people globally. Its symptoms are very similar to those of progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Those AMN patients with cerebral involvement have a poorer prognosis than those without cerebral involvement. In approximately 20% of patents with AMN, brain involvement is severely progressive and leads to serious cognitive and behavioral disturbances that eventually may progress to total disability and death. Joseph has finally won his battle with this rare inherited metabolic disease and is now in a better place.
