Josephine Flanagan

Josephine Barbra Rustad Flanagan was born at St. Anthony's hospital in Denver, Colorado on October 7th 1931. Her parents were Asbjorn (Harold) Rustad of Drammen, Norway and Minnie Felan of San Antonio, Texas. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, a baby boy in 1953, son James E. Flanagan (Pat) and her sister Vida Rohm, nephews and loving Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins, in Norway. Jo is survived by 3 children, Walter Melvin Flanagan, Robert Michael Flanagan (Pam), and Susan Kay Streeter (Steve). 10 grandchildren Stacey Fine (Jason), Teresa Flanagan, Lisa Crane (Matt), Jimmy Flanagan (Anne), Erin Blanco (Caeser), Shannon Phillips (Woody), Tyler Flanagan (Shelby), Andrew Streeter, Thomas Streeter and Amy Streeter. 7 great grandchildren. A special cousin and family Karin Harvey of Spain and Norway. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, and many friends. The say that the beginning date and end dates are not what is important but the dash in between. Jo lived an amazing dash. Jo was a cheer leader and Prom Queen at Littleton High School where she graduated from in 1949. She attend the University of Denver. She went back to school later in life and attended Metro State University. She work at Thomas Jefferson High School, Bethany Lutheran Church, The Nation Western Stock Show, The Home Builders Association of metro Denver and Heritage Vision Clinic. She married Melvin Walter Flanagan on October 12th 1952. They divorced in 1981. She loved to fish. She spent many days teaching her grandchildren to fish. Many of them still love to fish today thanks to Nana. Jo loved to ski she joined the Eskimo ski club and later the over the hill gang. She passed that love on to many family members. She loved to ice skate like her Dad. Susie and Jo spent many hours at Alpine ice arena, evergreen lake and the Broadmoor ice arena on skates. She also passed this love on to 3 of her grandchildren. She earned her Hockey Grandma pin by spending countless hours in very cold ice arenas all over Colorado and the United States cheering on her grandchildren and friends. She also loved to play tennis and ride bikes. She loved to attend events for all her grandchildren. She loved to be active. She loved to dance. She did it very well. Square, Round, line, country. She loved them all. She was a member of many dance groups. She traveled many places in the United States to attend dance events. There were many times she danced 7 days a week. Jo was a very kind, loving, happy person who always had a smile on her face. She did not know a stranger. She loved people and life and lived it well. She was always there for her family and friends. She was one in a million. She had a great sense of humor. She fought a very courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Jo went home to the Lord on Saturday August 27 2016. I know she was welcomed with open arms. She loved her lord and savior Jesus Christ. I am sure he told her what an amazing job she did with this life he gave her. She was an amazing daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, niece, cousin, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. We were so lucky to have you.
