Joseph "Joe" Kimbrel

Joseph “Joe” Boatis Kimbrel, aged 56, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on the evening of November 9th, 2021. Joe passed away from complications of a Grade IV Glioblastoma which he bravely fought for two years.

Joe was born in Albuquerque, NM to parents James and Pauline Kimbrel. He lived in cities across the United States including: Colorado Springs, CO and Lawrence, KS. Joe would enlist in the US Army in August of 1983 and was stationed in Puerto Rico. He was Honorably Discharged in August of 1987. While in the US Army, he performed his duties as a medic and X-Ray Specialist. After his service in the Army, Joe would earn certification in Interventional Radiology, MRI and CT at the University of Kansas. In a wide career spanning 35 years, he would work in hospitals across Colorado including: St. Joseph’s Hospital, Denver General, St. Anthony’s Hospital, Parker Adventist, Penrose and Sky Ridge Medical Center. He specialized in MRI and Interventional Radiology. While at Sky Ridge Medical Center, Joe was integral in introducing cutting edge MRI protocols to the Rocky Mountain Region. He would become the MRI Supervisor and continue to lead the introduction of MRI protocols and inspire many individuals to advance in their careers. His work, protocols, devotion to duty and outstanding patient care would go on to help and save a countless number of patients across the country.


In September of 2019, Joe would be diagnosed with a Grade IV Glioblastoma. He would go on to fight this illness valiantly until the end, always staying positive and inspiring all who came to know him and even those he never met. Joe was loved by so many, including his wife Diana Kimbrel, his daughters Hallie and Eli Kimbrel and his son Trevor Kimbrel. He is also survived by his brother, James Kimbrel. He was preceded in death by James and Pauline Kimbrel (his father and mother).


Memorial and Funeral services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Monday, November 22, 2021, at 10 am prior to burial. All are welcome to attend. The Memorial Service will also be streamed on Facebook Live for those that can't attend.
