Joy Berglund passed on March 12, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones, after a six-year battle with Colon Cancer. She was preceded in death by her mother (Barbara Fringer Yates) and mother-in-law (Virginia Gnirk Berglund). Joy is survived by her husband (Robert Berglund), son (Vincent), daughter (Brittany Berglund), and daughter-in-law (Emily). She leaves behind her father (Johnny Yates), father-in-law (Earl Berglund), brother (Johnny Yates II), granddaughter (Katarina), and many other loving family members. Joy was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on November 2, 1964, and grew up in the Security/Widefield area. Starting as a bank teller and rising through the industry, Joy finished her career with CoBiz Financial as VP and Bank Operations Project Coordinator. Her career included many accomplishments, with the most noteworthy being her project management of the new headquarters for Colorado Business Bank. She also worked with Penguin Digital Recording Company as a graphic designer for several years. Her hobbies were focused in the performing arts where she supported her daughter as the Treasurer for the Cherry Creek High School Band Parents Association for three years. She also continued her love for the performing arts with Winter Guard International and the Rocky Mountain Percussion Association, as the Timing and Penalties Judge. When she was not humming the latest marching band show tunes, she could be found knitting blankets and shawls for her nieces, nephews, and family friends. She will always be remembered in the kitchen by her made-from-scratch cinnamon rolls and spaghetti sauce. Joy married Robert on January 7, 1994, in Colorado Springs, and later moved to Aurora, Colorado, where they raised their son/step-son (Vincent) and daughter (Brittany). They then moved to Centennial, Colorado, where Robert and family currently reside. As a mother of two and an aunt to eight, Joy was always there to provide wise advice in the ways of life. Her family remembers her late-night check-in texts, and her caring nature. The fun times that she provided during family gatherings will be some of our fondest memories. She will be greatly missed by many, but remembered in such a loving way. Please join us at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Rd. (west of Holly St.) Centennial, CO 80122, on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate the wonderful life that Joy lived. There will be a reception following the ceremony, where light refreshments will be served. Please wear something purple as a remembrance of Joy's favorite color.
