Joy Christopher

March 21, 1929 — December 6, 2020

Aurora

Joy Fields Christopher was a woman who loved her family and teaching.

She was born in Texas on March 21, 1929 to her parents, John and Bernice Fields. After college, she married William E Christopher in August 1950 and they spent most of their marriage moving from base to base while raising their two children, Christie Anne and William Eugene Jr.  She passed away in Aurora Colorado on December 6, 2020.

She loved her family and managed to make a home no matter when we were stationed. Every Christmas, she filled our house with family and the odd lonely serviceman who had no family to share the holidays with. In Maine, Joy went back to college to gain her teaching certificate and after moving to Denver began teaching at Cunningham Elementary School in Aurora. While there she again returned to college and gained her doctorate in education.

She is survived by her brother Kenneth Fields; her two children William E Christopher Jr and wife, Sharon and Christie A Cooksey and husband, Ray.  She is also survived by grandchildren Katie Braddock, Laura Moreno, Sarah Thorneycroft; Aaron Cooksey and great grand children Hannah, Xander, Mariano, and Maya.

There will be no service at this time because of the coronavirus. She will be buried with her husband at Ft Logan.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to The Denver Hospice (thedenverhospice.org).
