Joy Nyhus

Joyce Irene Roelike, best known as Joy, was born to Dr. Stephen J. and Alma R. Roelike, and was the sister to Dr. Harold H Roelike. Joy was born Feb. 5, 1925 in Melrose, MN and attended all twelve grades of school in Melrose, MN, she graduated in 1943. Joy was always an active person. As a child she enjoyed Ice skating on the ponds and rivers around Melrose, biking, playing croquet and roller skating. In her high school band Joy played the Glockenspiel (Bell-Lyra), was in the school choral group and drama.

As an adult she added on bowling, golf, gardening, sewing, and bridge, with many valued friends in those activities. After High School Joy went on to Dental Hygiene school at the Univ. of MN. After graduating in 1946, she met her husband Ed Nyhus in Jan 1948, who was a patient in the Dental office where she worked in Minneapolis MN. They were married Sept 4, 1948 in Melrose, MN and moved to Denver, CO Dec 31st 1948.

Joy loved her work as a Dental Hygienist working full and part time until her retirement in 1980. In 1997 several operations forced Joy to give up bowling and golf, her bridge playing became her passion. She thoroughly enjoyed life.

She is survived by her 2 Children: Steve (wife Nora), and Diana (husband Randy).

5 grandchildren: Julie Schlitter (husband Billy), Mike Nyhus (wife Colleen), Cindi Lewis (husband Adam), Dustin Nyhus (wife Kim), Audrey Clark (Brian Fiancée). And grand step child Alyssa, 9 great grandchildren, Mason, Savana, Mikaela, Landon, Liam, Quinn, Addison, Jordyn Rose, and Evelyn the newest addition to the family.
