Joy Romero-Meyers

1928 — January 1, 2023

Denver, Colorado

Joy Virginia Isabela Bravo Romero, age 95, passed away on March 31, 2023, in Denver, Colorado.  She was born on January 16, 1928, in San Quintin, Philippines.  She was the oldest of Captain Alberto and Toribia Bravo's three daughters.  Captain Bravo died during the war.  The family's strong Christian faith and beliefs helped them through the war and their difficulties afterwards.  Mrs. Bravo and her three daughters lived in San Quintin until after the war.  She completed her education in Manila and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy.  She married Gavino "Bening" Romero and they had four sons.  The family immigrated to the United States in 1964 where they settled in Denver.

Joy worked at various hospitals in Denver and sometimes held three jobs, including working part time at a travel agency to fulfill her desire to travel.  She became a full-time travel agent after she retired to further indulge in her pastime.  She traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad visiting over 90 countries, including Nepal, South Africa, Australia, Russia and China to name a few.  She visited some of these countries before they became popular tourist destinations.  Joy also found time to volunteer for numerous religious and medical missions abroad, such as, distributing Bibles in China and cleft palate charity missions.

Joy is preceded in death by her husband Gavino "Bening" Romero, her parents Captain Alberto and Toribia Bravo, sister Lydia Hilty and granddaughter Kristi Yoho.  Joy is also preceded in death by Arthur Meyers, whom she married later in her life.  She is survived by her sons Albert (Magi) Romero, Robert (Eileen) Romero, Louie (Cecile) Romero, Phil Romero, numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister Viola Bravo and brother-in-law Daniel Hilty.

Joy lived the full life that she wanted and was loved by family and many friends.  Her strong Christian convictions never waned, praying and reading the Bible everyday.
