Joy Dean Vaughn, age 80, of Aurora, Colorado, born July 15, 1936 in Middleton, TN, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2017. Joy had a great love for Colorado and lived in Bailey for 17 years. She enjoyed watching the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, foxes, or elk, and was thrilled to see a moose, or bear or to hear the roars of the mountain lions. She loved the changing of the aspens and absolutely loved the snow. She was a proud Air Force wife, and always made sure the Chief looked sharp, She was a fabulous cook, with extravagant party spreads. She loved time with family. She spent 62 years with John Vaughn traveling the world and having amazing experiences in the U.K., Iran, Germany, Holland, and Austria, just to name a few. She had a great spirit, and so many friends. She will be greatly missed. Joy is preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Joe Frank McCommon; and her brother, James E McCommon of Dothan. Joy is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Vaughn; brother Bobby J McCommon of Middleton, TN.; daughters, Pam and Heather Vaughn; son, John A Vaughn; Daughter-in-law, Cynthia Vaughn; and two grandchildren, Joe and Jessica Vaughn. The family invites you to join them on Friday, January 20, 2017, to celebrate Joy's life. The visitation will begin at 4 o'clock at the Horan & McConaty Heart Light Chapel, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80014. The funeral Service will follow at 6 o'clock. A private graveside service for Joy will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
