Joy Mayoria (Hallmark) Wagner was born in Campo, CO on July 17,1921 to Columbus Napoleon Hallmark and Mary Elizabeth (Burgner) Hallmark. She had six brothers: Eldon, Chester, Kenneth, Dasel, Rueben, and Herbert Hallmark (who died in childhood). All of her brothers except Dasel have preceded her in death.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Joyce Ann Bistline (Robert), Elizabeth Irene Abbott, Linda Raye Frederick (Doug), four Grandchildren, Tracie (Scott) Mason, Matthew (Sarah) Frederick, Cassandra (Brian) Larson, Scott (Deena) McNichol and 5 great grandkids.
Joy went to be with her Lord and reunite with her husband of 72 years on June 27, 2020.
Joy and her family were very poor in their growing up years. They lived in a dugout during the dust bowl and struggled throughout the depression. Her father moved the family to numerous places to find work. They lived in Canada for a short time, where 3yr old Joy got lost in the woods and was rescued by a tall Canadian Mounty.
Joyâs parents received an inheritance, and used it to buy a house in Lamar, CO. They farmed the land, and all of the children helped with that until they were grown.
Joy went to school in Wichita, KS to receive an Associate degree in Medical Technology. Working as a Medical Technologist in Lamar, CO she met the love of her life Raymond David Wagner. He came into the clinic for treatment and wanted to take her out to dinner right away! This led to a 72-year endearing marriage.
Joy and Raymond brought three daughters into the world. Joyce Ann, Elizabeth Irene, and Linda Raye were born in the late 40âs and early 50âs. Joy was proud of her three girls. She took them to Sunday School all dressed alike in lovely little dresses she made for them. Her creative talents were many: crochet, knitting, egg decorating, cake decorating, canning, and cooking. She also served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. Camping was her specialty! She took her civil duty seriously and worked for her party precinct. For many years she worked the election polls. In addition, she went back to work to help the girls pay for University. After the girls grew up and left home Joy got involved with the National Button Society. She put together a wonderful collection of antique buttons that filled up one whole room. She won quite a few ribbons in completion.
Joy was a very nurturing Mother and grandmother, an industrious homemaker, and a loving, patient wife. When asked how she would like to be remembered she said, âAs someone who would help anyone, with anything at any time.â She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
