Joyce Olson

November 4, 1929 — October 26, 2012

Joyce Lindquist Olson of Littleton, Colorado passed away Friday, Oct 26, 2012; she was 82. Joyce was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 4, 1929 to Irwin and Myrtle Lindquist. The last of three children, she was proceeded in death by her two brothers Hal and Dean. Joyce attended East High School and later the University of Utah where she studied art. She spent her summers hitchhiking to work in Yellowstone National Park. She met Randy Olson on her birthday in 1959 while working as a receptionist for Sperry Engineering Lab. She invited Randy to share a bite of her birthday cake and it was love at first sight. The two were married on September 2, 1961. Soon after they were married, they moved to San Jose, California where their sons Erik Gregg, Scott, and Paul were born. The family moved to Colorado in 1969 where she lived out the rest of her life. Joyce had a long-term love affair with the outdoors starting with her job in Yellowstone. Summer would find her planning picnics to the mountains, and fall would always require a trip to see the aspen change. She loved taking care of her garden and often would be found pulling weeds before the sun rose. Joyce loved her Broncos and sitting next to her would guarantee that your knees would be pounded during an exciting play. She also enjoyed the Rockies. Joyce was an avid golfer and she also loved to ski. She could even be seen tossing footballs and baseballs with her children. Joyce had a passion for both knitting and teaching knitting; she co-owed a knitting shop for a while. She was active in her community and volunteered for many organizations including Littleton hospital where she knitted hats for newborns. Joyce was also an active member in her sorority Delta Delta Delta. Joyce was an adventurous and wonderful cook. Joyce is survived by her husband Randy, their three children, and five grandchildren Cody, Sasha, Sierra, Samara and Nate. A brief, 20 minute, graveside service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Friday, November 2 at 11:00 am. The Cemetery is located at 4400 W. Kenyon ave, Denver. A reception will be held at 9786 West Baden Drive, Littleton 80127 at 1:00 pm. The family wishes to thank all the friends and family who have supported us with such warmth and care.
